Ready-Mix Concrete in for Performance and Sustainability

Prairie Materials supplies a full line of ready-mix concrete that Illinois contractors and project managers count on. Standard structural mixes, engineered specialty designs, Prairie+ low-carbon options, fiber-reinforced mixes, fast-strength paving concrete, decorative integral color, controlled low-strength flowable fill, and high-workability mixes for difficult placements. Every load is batched at our plants and delivered ready to place. Mix design is matched to project specifications and conditions on the ground, not just pulled from a default catalog. When a pour is scheduled, everything on site is staged around it. Crews, pumps, and formwork are ready and waiting, and the concrete has to be too. At Canada Building Materials, we understand what is at stake in those moments, and our ready mix concrete capabilities have been developed to meet this responsibility with confidence.

Prairie+: Where Innovation Meets the Spec

Prairie+ is Prairie Materials’ line of sustainability-focused ready-mix concrete, and what makes it different starts long before the batch. Through a multi-year partnership with Concrete.ai, Prairie Materials is one of the first ready-mix producers in North America to use AI-powered mix optimization at scale. Concrete Copilot, the tool at the center of this partnership, models performance and carbon impact side by side before a single cubic yard is produced, predicting 28-day strength results with an accuracy that changes how mix design decisions get made.

This matters for contractors and project teams because it means Prairie+ mixes are not approximations. They are optimized, documented, and validated by our technical team, with lower embodied carbon without sacrificing strength, finish, or constructability. Approximately 30 percent of Prairie+ mixes are now actively produced using AI-optimized designs, and the program continues to grow.

Learn and Evolve is the Our VC Way principle behind this investment. We did not pursue AI-powered optimization because the industry was buzzing about it. We pursued it because the technology made our team more capable, and better decisions at the mix design stage carry forward to every future project.

Prologis Cicero: Prairie+ at Full Scale

Prologis Cicero is a 400,000 square foot warehouse with 61 dock doors and the first full-scale Prairie+ warehouse project. Prologis carried a stringent low-carbon specification into the project, and Prairie Materials met that spec without compromising schedule or finish. Of the total concrete placed, 99.6 percent used Prairie+ low-carbon mix designs, eliminating an estimated 721 tons of CO2 compared to a conventional mix of equivalent performance. Compressive strength reached 156 percent of the design target at both 7 and 28 days.

Contractor M-JTJ Contractor & Builders Inc. reported strength comparable to historic mix designs, increased finishability for interior and exterior applications, and consistent set times through winter conditions. The project also produced something with staying power: new mix designs developed through the process are vetted and ready for future projects, giving Prairie Materials the ability to respond quickly when low-carbon specifications come with tight timelines.

LEED and Green Building Support

Environmental Product Declarations for Prairie Materials and Prairie+ mixes are available on request. They are the document type LEED reviewers expect, and our technical services and quality control teams work with project teams to identify the mix designs and documentation that align with specific credit goals.

Consistent Spec Ready Materials

Across all plant locations, our teams batch ready-mix concrete products to the same standards. Calibrated batching equipment, controlled supplementary cementitious material sources, monitored aggregate gradation, and standardized quality control protocols mean that a project drawing material from more than one plant gets material that meets the same specification.

Trust and Simplicity is the value that holds this together. The concrete performs, our documentation is there, and the schedule holds. This is the standard Prairie Materials is built on, and it applies to every project, from a single foundation pour to a 115,000 cubic yard skyscraper.
